A reliable moving company is a wonderful thing. They are like an oasis of stress-free calm in the middle of one of life’s most stressful events. When you see them arrive and quickly and efficiently start to clear out your house and load their truck, it feels like the first thing that’s gone absolutely right with your move.
But, even if you find the greatest moving company ever, moving is a risky undertaking for your belongings. Think about it this way, even if you moved your things yourself, there’s a good chance that something will be damaged, maybe even lost, in the move.
While reputable companies will at least have options for insuring your belongings, there are some things that no amount of insurance money can replace. If it’s at all possible, you should make plans to move these sorts of things yourself. Fortunately, most of them can fit in your car!
You don’t want to risk losing any documents that might be difficult, costly or impossible to replace. Also, financial documents usually have enough information on them to make it easy for someone to steal your identity. You should move passports, wills and financial documents yourself.
If you have expensive jewelry, or artwork or heirlooms, it’s best to not put them at risk in a big move.
While they may not have high financial value, you’ve invested time and energy in your collections and you should exercise proper care when moving them.
Photographs have little or no financial value, but they are priceless. Any other objects that hold a special place in your life should be moved by the person who cares for them the most.
Here’s a thought. If you are concerned about moving items like those listed above by yourself, why not arrange a special ‘little’ move to transport them exclusively. Call us here at Little Moves to learn more.
